How to get there: One can use road transport or air transport. By road from Kampala via Mubende to Fort Portal which is 300km takes visitor about 4hrs. another way is from Kampala via Masaka- Mbarara- Bushenyi to Kasese, which is about 350km can take tourists roughly 6 hours.

Rwenzori Mountains National Park is a Ugandan national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the Rwenzori Mountains. Almost 1,000 km2 (386 sq mi) in size, the park in Africa has its’s third highest mountain peak and many waterfalls, lakes, and glaciers. The park is known for its beautiful plant life. The park is owned by the Ugandan government through Uganda National Parks. It is protected, although extraction may be sanctioned by a board of trustees. Kasese, 437 km west of Uganda’s capital Kampala, is the gateway to the park. The town has hotels and lodges, while the park has camping, a good trail network, and huts for hikers. The park has Mountain trekking and climbing routes, several with unusual sceneries. The most popular trek is a seven-days circuit of the park.
June, July, August and September are the best time to visit Uganda. These peak months are generally dry summer. March-May and October-November see the highest rainfall, but gorillas are still prowling in the mist – although tracking to find them will be slippery and slower. Here the accommodation and gorilla permits can be much cheaper at this time.
The Rwenzoris are amazingly world-class hiking and mountaineering destination. A nine- to twelve-day trek with skilled climbers to the summit of Margherita – the highest peak – even you can try for shorter treks to scale the surrounding lower peaks.
For those who prefer something a little less strenuous, neighbouring Bakonzo villages offer nature walks, homestead visits home cultural performances and accommodation, including home-cooked local cuisine of Mountain range. The national park is home for 70 mammals and 217 bird species including 19 Albertine Rift endemic, as well as some of the world’s rarest vegetation.
