Rwandair offers domestic flights from Kigali to Kamembe national airport. After reaching Kamembe airport you will need a car pick up to Nyungwe. Fly with Akagera aviation (helicopter): You can also fly by Helicopter with Akagera aviation from Kigali to Nyungwe. As by road is about 225km and a 4–5-hour drive from Kigali.

Nyungwe Forest National Park is located in southwestern Rwanda, on the border of Burundi, where it is contiguous with the Kibira National Park on the south, and Lake Kivu and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. The Nyungwe rainforest is probably the best-preserved montane rainforest in Central Africa. Parkis located in the crunch between the basin of the river Congo to the west and the basin of the river Nile to the east. From the east side of the Nyungwe forest comes also one of the branches of the Nile sources.Nyungwe National Park was established in 2004 and covers an area of 1,019 km2 (393 sq mi) approx. of rainforest, bamboo, grassland, swamps, and bogs.
One of the oldest rainforests in Africa, Nyungwe is rich in biodiversity and spectacularly beautiful.The birdwatching is among the best in Africa with 322 bird’s species including Red-collared Babbler and 29 other Albertine Rift Endemic species. Butterflies are also a common sight here, with at least of 120 species.There are 75 known mammals in Nyungwe, such as the cerval cat, mongoose, congo clawless otter and leopard to name but a few. Many animals tend to be shy so sightings are luck of the draw for visitors.
Memorable and picturesque moments include walking up to the Isumo waterfall or along the Canopy Walk suspension bridge. Tea plantations border are on the edges of the park,with a familiar troop of Ruwenzori colobus monkeys at Gisakura as well as forest fringe birds. With plenty of rainfall, Nyungwe is also the major catchment area in Rwanda, and supplies water to 70% of the country.
Anedge running throughout the forest forms a crunch between the drainage systems of the Nile and the Congo. The slopes of Mt Biguguis said to be the most isolated source of the Nile, the world’s longest river.
While travellingto south you will come across several towns, one of the main cities you will come across is Huye town, which is about 32km from Kigali. The road is quite smooth, but the road has very sharp turns so driver needs to be careful.
