After morning breakfast, we drive to Tarangire National Park. Located in the Great Rift Valley System, Tarangire is known for its massive elephant herds, a true sense of wilderness, and backdrop of baobabs, we’ll marvel at our first good looks at what is probably one of Africa’s largest population of free-ranging elephants, along with the cape buffalos, impalas, giraffe, zebras, and wildebeest who— in addition to some big cats and two score or more other mammal species—make their domicile in and around the park.
After breakfast, you will travel from the Tarangire Area to the Lake Manyara National Park. The park is known for its over 400 bird species, primate-filled forests, and grassy plains. A large area of the park is covered by the alkaline Lake Manyara, the seasonal breeding grounds for large colonies of flamingos and many more waterfowls. The park is also home to giraffes, hippos, wildebeests, impalas, and groups of noisy monkeys and baboons. After an extensive game drive, you will travel to the lodge, where you will spend the night.
Afterbreakfast we make a memorable drive north-west, to the fabled Lost World of the Ngorongoro Crater, a volcanic bowl abounding with life and beauty, unknown to the outside world until 1892 (which helps account for its wealth of wildlife, everything from a burgeoning lion population to fine stands of flamingos). Nomadic cheetah move in and out of the area and leopards are most often encountered in the Lerai Forest. Both golden and black-backed jackals are abundant, while the normally shy and nocturnal serval are frequently spotted during daylight hours
After breakfast, road transfer into the heart of the Serengeti. Lunch en-route at Olduvai Gorge and a view of the archaeological sites (and visit the museum) where early human tools and fossils have been found. Afternoon game drive in the rolling grasslands. Criss-crossed with forested riverine valleys, the Serengeti plays home to millions of Africa’s large mammals, making this one of the world’s most famous wildlife destinations.
Daily game drives with your professional guide provide the perfect opportunity to get up close to Africa’s incredible animals. During your stay, you are likely to spot a great variety of wildlife including cheetah, bearded wildebeest, bat-eared fox, black rhino, Maasai giraffe, lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and zebra.
